Lightweight lattice heat exchangers must survive cyclic thermal gradients during startup–shutdown. Selective laser melting produces struts with surface roughness and microstructural gradients that alter crack initiation sites. Isothermal and out-of-phase thermomechanical tests on dogbone specimens extracted from unit cells reveal shorter lives than bulk wrought material at matched stress amplitudes, motivating post-process hot isostatic pressing to close internal porosity.
Joint-liability loans may crowd in business skills when peer monitoring substitutes for collateral. We randomize invitations to form new lending circles among women operating informal retail stalls. Intent-to-treat estimates show higher inventory turnover and formal savings account uptake relative to a wait-list control, with no significant increase in household debt stress measured twelve months post-enrollment.
Light-trap surveys are labour-intensive and taxonomically biased toward certain families. We deploy low-cost recorders along forest–pasture edges and train a convolutional network on expert-labelled chirp and stridulation events. Hold-out nights recover known guild turnover across seasons with fewer false positives than template-matching baselines, enabling nightly activity indices that correlate with concurrent pitfall abundance for selected ground-beetle groups.
Multi-site trials require demonstrable integrity of consent documentation without exposing identifiable participant data on public ledgers. We prototype a permissioned chain that stores salted hashes of consent PDFs alongside investigator signatures and protocol version identifiers. Pilot deployment across three ethics-approved studies shows faster reconciliation during monitoring visits than email-based version control while meeting local data-residency constraints.
Raised bogs preserve pollen archives that record regional vegetation shifts with decadal resolution. Two new cores spanning the last three millennia show alternating dominance of birch and pine with abrupt increases in cereal-type pollen after medieval land-use intensification. Multivariate ordination links compositional turnover to independent peat humification indices, supporting a coupled climate–land-use interpretation rather than single forcing.
Fixed-time signal plans underperform when demand fluctuates within the day. We train deep Q-network agents on a calibrated microscopic simulator with realistic turning proportions and pedestrian minimum greens. Compared with Webster-style actuated control, learned policies reduce average vehicle delay and queue length on a representative four-leg intersection without increasing pedestrian maximum wait beyond regulatory limits.
Seasonal migration and shared water points may constrain both hydration and food preparation. We administered a validated water-insecurity scale alongside a household dietary diversity score to 412 pastoral households during dry and wet seasons. Higher insecurity is associated with lower diversity indices after adjusting for livestock holdings and market distance, suggesting integrated interventions should pair storage infrastructure with nutrition counselling.
Structure-based virtual screening still struggles when receptor conformations differ from crystallographic templates. We encode ligand atoms and binding-pocket residues in a hierarchical graph with distance-binned edges and train a message-passing network on curated complexes. Cross-validation on a held-out target family shows improved rank enrichment over classical scoring functions while remaining computationally tractable for library-scale docking campaigns.
U.S.-China conflicts featuring life-and-death games have been increasingly intensified. This paper has adopted the water and game theory for intercultural communication (WGTICC) alongside the three-layer culture model to comparatively analyze two pivotal historical and diplomatic events: the voyage of the Empress of China and the U.S.-China Anchorage Summit. The case analyses yield two core sets of findings. First, the empirical examination of these two episodes substantiates the first and second foundational hypotheses of WGTICC. Second, this paper identifies distinct cultural undercurrents shaping bilateral interactions in each case. For the Empress of China expedition, three key cultural drivers stand out: the two nations shared complementary practical demands and engaged in mutually equitable exchanges; the maiden American trading voyage to China constituted far more than a commercial undertaking, serving as a state-backed national endeavor with robust financial, political and military support; and both societies were swept by the prevailing cultural current of Romanticism during this era. By contrast, the Anchorage Summit reveals starkly divergent cultural logics driving contemporary bilateral conflicts. U.S. negotiators misjudged both their own standing and China's international status, adopting a patronizing, power-centric stance to belittle their Chinese counterparts. The Biden administration frames its efforts to uphold a U.S.-centered global order under the rhetorical banner of democracy and freedom, while advancing the Indo-Pacific Strategy to constrain China through institutional blocs including the Quad and AUKUS. Conversely, China advances a normative framework of peaceful coexistence, sovereign equality and reciprocal gain, embodied in the Belt and Road Initiative. This research concludes that both the U.S. and China stand to achieve shared prosperity by prioritizing collaborative common ground over antagonistic confrontation, which is a choice with profound ramifications for billions of people worldwide.
